Claude skills and ChatGPT workflows: choosing the fit

Compare the task, installation route and available tools before choosing a platform label.

Compare the workflow you can run

Start with the same permitted inputs and the same reviewed output standard. Ask what the proposed skill actually needs: instruction text, a reference folder, local scripts, or connected business apps. Then compare those requirements with the environment available in your account.

This is a setup decision as much as a model decision. A useful protocol with missing dependencies is still an incomplete workflow.

Read Fieldwork’s labels

Claude indicates a source with a Claude or Agent Skills setup path. Codex points to a documented Codex setup or current plugin source. ChatGPT may describe a publisher-supported manual protocol or a clearly stated editorial instruction adaptation. Each listing spells out which one.

Fieldwork does not turn a source repository into an endorsed GPT, or infer that every app-specific tool works on every platform. Read the current OpenAI skill concepts and Claude plugin guidance for product-specific details.

Run a comparison you can review

Use a sample task with clear criteria: which required facts are included, whether totals match, whether claims are supported, and what remains unresolved. Include installation and review effort in your comparison. Keep the prompt and source revision with the result.

Choose the environment that completes the reviewed task reliably in your business context. No universal platform winner or guaranteed productivity uplift is claimed here.
